태권도 경기에서 승패는 어떤 의미인가?


- 태권도 세계선수권대회
2003년 세계선수권대회 남자 웰터급 결승전에서는 미국과 독일이 맞붙었다.
개최지 독일 관중들과 미국에서 온 응원단의 열띤 응원전이 벌어졌다.  
4대4 동점, 무승부 상태에서 미국 선수에게 우세승이 선언됐다.
안타깝게 우승을 놓친 독일 선수에게도 헹가래가 이어졌다.
 
- 헤비급 여자 결승전
헤비급 여자 결승전에서는 승자와 패자가 모두 눈물을 흘렸다.
한국의 윤현정 선수는 크로아티아의 나타샤 선수를 맞아 1대 0으로 힘겹게 승리했다.
윤 선수는 국내대회에서의 서러움을 단숨에 씻을 수 있게 됐다.

세계 최강자 가운데 최강자를 가리는 헤비급
남자 결승전. 우승 기대주로 관심이 집중됐던
한국의 문대성과 프랑스의 파스칼이 예선 탈락한 가운데
이란과 덴마크 선수가 맞붙었다

3회 후반 이란 선수의 빠른 발과 돌려차기가 적중,
우승은 이란 선수에게 돌아갔다


- 페더급 남자 예선 3차전
대회 마지막날 벌어진 페더급 경기.
한국팀으로서는 절대절명의 경기였다.
지금까지의 종합성적은 한국이 이란에 3점 뒤진 상태.
이번 경기에서 지면 한국이 종합 3위로 내려앉게 된다.
이란이 이기면 대회 사상 최초로 외국팀이 종합 우승을 거머쥐는 신화가 창조된다. 
때문에 한국과 이란 모두 한치도 양보할 수 없는 일전이었다.

지난 세계대회 밴텀급 우승자로 이번엔 한 체급 올려 페더급 정상을 노리고 있다.
이란의 비박아실 선수는 맹렬한 기세로 파고 들었다.
그러나 기술과 관록 모두 한국 선수가 한 수 위였다.
10대 3이라는 월등한 차이였다.
하지만 이란팀은 패배를 깨끗하게 인정하지 않았다.
이란 응원단의 난동으로 모든 경기가 중단되는 소동이 벌어졌다.

(우리 한국 사람들이 좀 더 연구를 해서
외국 사람들에게 월등한 기술을 가지고 출전해야 되겠다는 거...
또 정책적인 문제에 있어서 모든 심판이나 정책에 있어서 정확하고 오픈된
이러한 정책으로 외국 사람들이 누가 봐도 인정할 수 있는
룰, 정책, 기술이 삼위일체가 되었으면 하는 바램입니다.)

- 전국종별태권도선수권대회
세계대회에 출전할 수 있는 국가대표가 되려면 국내에서의 험난한 고비를 넘겨야 한다. 
2003년 3월 전국종별태권도선수권대회.

경기가 시작되기 훨씬 이전부터 선수들은 치열한 싸움을 벌인다.
계체에서 탈락하게 되면 싸워보지도 못한다.
지난 일년간 자기와의 싸움이 물거품이 되는 순간이다

- 이정수 선수 계체
우석대의 이정수 선수는 450그램이 부족해 1차 계체에서 탈락했다.
체중이 초과돼 땀을 빼는 것도 고역이지만 체중이 미달돼 물을 몇병씩 마시는 일도 죽을맛이다

- 이정수 16강 경기
종별선수권대회는 선수들의 출전 자격 제한이 없기 때문에 어느 대회보다도 치열하다
이정수 선수도 남자 일반부 웰터급 16강전에 진출했다.
이 대회에서 3위안에 들어야만 국가대표 선발대회 예선전 출전 자격을 딸 수 있다.
대학 선수들에게는 국가대표가 될 수 있는 마지막 기회이기도 하다.
이정수 선수는 무난히 16강을 통과했다.

- 이정수 8강 경기
잠시 후 다시 8강전.
이정수 선수가 뒤지고 있다.
마지막까지 최선을 다했지만 9대 14로 다섯점이나 뒤진 상태에서 경기가 종료됐다.

여고부 선수 대기실.
대부분 초등학교 시절부터 소년체전 등의 경기에서 서로 얼굴을 익힌 사이들이다.

(그래도 제가 대학 갈려면 냉정하게… 그냥 눈 딱 감고 해요.
그래도 시합 끝나면 서로 잊구요, 누가 이기든 잘했다고 해주고...)

- 강혜미 선수 16강 경기
서울체고의 강혜미 선수.
이제 1학년 신입생이지만 소년체전에서 우승한 유망주다.
혜미는 동점 상태에서 우세승으로 겨우 16강을 통과했다.

국가대표가 될 수 있는 첫 관문이기에 선수들은 이를 악물고 경기에 임한다.
한번의 실수도 허용해서는 안된다.

혜미가 경고를 받았다.
아직 점수는 9대 6으로 혜미가 우세한 상황.
2차 경고를 받았지만 결국 혜미는 무사히 경기를 끝냈다

혜미의 준결승 상대는 수내고 3학년의 지은이다.

두 사람은 서로 친하게 지내는 사이다.
하지만 승부는 냉정했다.
서로 한치의 양보도 없는 접전.
경력에서 앞선 지은이의 승리다.

대회가 모두 끝이 났다.
혜미는 3,4위전에서 이겨 3위, 지은이는 우승을 차지했다.
둘 다 국가대표 선발전에 나갈수 있게 됐다.

- 태권도 국가대표 선발대회
2003년 4월초, 국가대표선발대회 예선전.
일년에 한번 있는 이 대회에는 종별선수권대회와 전국체전 등 각 대회 입상자들이 출전한다.

- 안지은 선수 경기
핀급에 출전한 지은이의 상대는 청주시청팀 선수.
지은이의 패기보다는 상대 선수의 경륜이 우세했다.
지은이는 대학에 가서도 계속 국가대표에 도전해야 하는 부담을 안게됐다.


- 2003년 서울시장기 검도대회
태권도뿐 아니라 경기화된 무술에서는 모두 치열한 승부가 벌어진다.
2003년 3월 열린 서울시장기 검도대회.
모두 54개 팀이 참가한 청년부에서는 관악구청팀과 성검회의 결승이 벌어졌다.
죽도를 거머쥔 양 선수간에는 진검을 든 것과 같은 팽팽한 긴장감이 흐른다.

(사실 검도는요, 죽도 경기라 할지라도 경기장에 들어가면 상당히 마음에 부담이 되고 굉장히 떨립니다.
이것은 아무리 많은 연습을 하고 기술이 좋은 사람도 잠깐 한번 실수에 한번에 지기 때문이죠.  
순간적으로 한번 맞으면 그걸로 게임이 끝나기 때문에...)

검도 경기는 죽도로 상대방의 머리나 몸퉁, 손목을 치거나 목을 찌르면 득점으로 인정된다.
득점을 위해서는 무엇보다 발의 움직임이 중요하다.
검이 들어갈 수 있는 기회가 와도 거리가 좋지 않으면 상대에게 치명타를 줄수 없기 때문이다.

그래서 ‘검도는 발로 한다’는 말이 있을 정도다.
선수들은 발끝에서 칼끝까지 상대의 마음을 읽어야 한다.



- 2003년 회장기전국유도대회
승부는 코트 위에서 벌어지는 것만은 아니다.
선수 뒤의 코치들 사이에서도 팽팽한 기 싸움이 벌어진다.

(업어치기 안 먹는 거 알면서 업어치기만 하고 있어… 치기는 안 하면서…)

(오른발 넣어, 오른발 넣어. 이렇게 끌고 나와야지. 끌어주면서...)   

국가대표 2차 선발전을 겸해 열린 이번 유도대회 남자 대학부에서는 한양대와 용인대가 맞붙었다.

(공격을 했어요? 저쪽이, 한번이라도?
아유 진짜...공격을 했어요?
상대방이 저쪽이 공격을 했냐고...)

- 유도경기 결승전
인하대 전북대를 이기고 올라 온 한양대팀과,
선문대 한체대를 누르고 올라 온 용인대팀간의 한판 승부.
한치 앞을 내다볼 수 없는 치열한 각축이 이어졌다.

결국 남자 대학부 단체전 우승은 유도 명문 용인대에게 돌아갔다.
싸워서 이기는 것, 승부는 무술의 목표다.
그러나 경기화된 무술의 승부는 진정한 승부가 아니라는 비판도 제기되고 있다.
경기 무술은 무술의 핵심인 실전성을 상실했기 때문이라는 것이다.

- World Taekwondo Championship
The United States and Germany faced off in the men's welterweight final at the 2003 World Championships.
There was a heated cheering match between the German audience and the cheering squad from the United States.
After a 4-4 tie and a draw, the American player was declared the winner.
The German player, who unfortunately missed the championship, was also lifted.
 
- Heavyweight Women's Final
In the women's heavyweight final, both winners and losers shed tears.
Korea's Hyun-Jeong Yoon defeated Croatia's Natasha and won 1-0.
Yun was able to wash away her sorrow at her domestic competition at once.

- Featherweight Men's Qualification Round 3
Featherweight bout on the last day of the competition.
For the Korean team, it was an absolute desperation.
Korea's overall score so far is three points behind Iran.
If they lose this match, Korea will move down to 3rd overall.
If Iran wins, a myth is created in which a foreign team wins the overall championship for the first time in the history of the tournament.
Therefore, it was a battle that both Korea and Iran could not concede.
Gang nam-won, South Korea's most anticipated player.
As the bantamweight winner of the last world championship,
this time he is aiming for the featherweight title by raising one weight.
Iranian player Bibak-A-Sil broke through with a fierce momentum.
All were Korean players.
It was a huge difference of 10 to 3.
However, the Iranian team did not openly admit the defeat.
All matches were halted due to riots from Iranian cheering squad.

- National Taekwondo Championships
In order to become a national representative who can participate in the world championships, one has to overcome a difficult obstacle in Korea.
March 2003 National Taekwondo Championships.

Long before the start of the match, players fight fiercely.
If you fail the weight check, you won't even be able to fight.
This is the moment when the fight with yourself over the past year is in vain

- Lee Jung-soo, weigh-in
Woosuk University's Lee Jung-soo was eliminated from the first weigh-in because he lacked 450 grams.
It's hard to sweat because you're overweight, but drinking a few bottles of water because you're underweight is also worth dying for.

- Lee’s round of 16 match
The category championships are more intense than any other competition because there are no restrictions on the qualifications of athletes.
Lee Jung-soo also advanced to the men's welterweight round of 16.
In this competition, he has to finish in the top 3 to qualify for the qualifying rounds for the national team competition.
It is also the last chance for college players to represent the national team.
Lee Jung-soo made it through the round of 16 without problems.

He did his best until the end, but the game ended with a score of 9-14, five points behind.

- Hyemi Kang's round of 16 match
Hyemi Kang of Seoul Sports High School.
She is now a freshman in her first year, but she is a promising youngster who won the National Youth  Championship.
Hyemi barely passed the round of 16 with a dominant win from a tie.

Since she is the first gateway to becoming a national team player, the players clench their teeth and enter the game.
She must not allow a single mistake.

Hyemi has been warned.
The score was still 9-6, with Hyemi winning.
She was given a second warning, but in the end Hyemi finished the match unharmed.

Hye-mi's opponent in the semifinals is Ji-eun, Sunae High School.

The two are friendly with each other.
But the match was cold.
A close battle with no concessions to each other.
It is a victory for the author who is ahead in her career.

All competitions are over.
Hyemi took 3rd place, and Jieun took the championship.
Both were able to qualify for the national team selection.

- National team selection contest
Early April 2003, the preliminary round of the national team competition.
This event, held once a year, is attended by the winners of each competition, including the category championships and national sports competitions.

- Ahn Ji-eun match
Ji-eun, who competed in the pinweight division, faced a player from the Cheongju City Hall team.
Rather than the author's ambition, her opponent's experience prevailed.
Even after going to college, Ji-eun had to continue to challenge the national team.


- 2003 Seoul Kendo Competition
Not only Taekwondo but also competitive martial arts are all fierce competitions.
The Seoul Mayor's Kendo Competition held in March 2003.
In the youth division, where a total of 54 teams participated, the finals of the Gwanak-gu Office Team and the Seonggeomhoe were held.
A tense tension flows between the two players who have won the bamboo sword, as if they were holding a true sword.

(Actually, in kendo, even in a bamboo sword match, when I enter the stadium, it is quite burdensome and I am very nervous.
This is because even those who practice a lot and have good skills lose once in a while for a mistake.
Because if you get hit in an instant, the game ends with that...)

In a kendo game, if you hit the opponent's head, body, wrist, or neck with a bamboo sword, a score is counted.
In order to score, the movement of the feet is the most important thing.
Even if there is an opportunity for the sword to enter, if the distance is not good, it cannot inflict a critical hit on the opponent.

The game is not just played on the court.
A fierce battle ensues between the coaches behind the players.

Hanyang University and Yongin University faced off in the men's college division of the judo competition, which was also held as the second round of the national team.

- Judo finals
With the Hanyang University team, who came up after defeating Inha University and Chonbuk National University,
A bout between the Yongin University team that came up after defeating the Sunmoon University and Korea Sports University.
There was a fierce competition that could not be predicted.

In the end, the men's college team event went to Yongin University, a prestigious judo team.
Fighting and winning is the goal of martial arts.
However, there are also criticisms that the match of competitive martial arts is not a real match.
It is because Sports martial arts has lost the practicality that is the core of martial arts.
